The Amazon is not known as “the lungs of the planet” with its half of the world’s species of plants and animals living in this region. Also about a million indigenous people live in that region.
But nevertheless these facts the deforestation in Brazil continues and is in fact rising. It doesn’t help that the leaders of Brazil and Columbia are right-winged which might threaten the current legal protection of the rainforest which is already not enough giving the harms of the Climate change to the biodiversity.
Now the COICA (the Coordinator of Indigenous Organisations of the Amazon River Basin, an indigenous alliance of 500 cultures in 9 Amazon countries) presented their idea of a 200m hectares protected areas through the Amazon at a United Nations conference on Biodiversity.
